While the boards of many Irish plcs worry about the uncertainty sweeping markets, not so Elan Corporation. Chief executive, Donal Geaney, referred to the drug company as recession proof this week. Why so? Because "no matter what the world markets do, people will keep getting sick", Mr Geaney pointed out. He also suggested there might be an upside for the firm of the market slump, given that the demand for stress-related drugs was likely to grow!
