IT giant to invest £12 million in Northern Ireland over next three years

IT giant Fujitsu plans to create 192 jobs in Derry as part of a £12 million investment project in the North.

The company said it will create 177 full time jobs and 15 business apprenticeships in the city.

It will start recruiting for the new positions in the New Year.

Fujitsu currently has a facility in Derry but it plans to develop a new business services centre at its existing Timber Quay site in the city.

Its latest investment will bring its total workforce in Northern Ireland to more than 1000 across four locations; Belfast, Antrim and Derry.

The Japanese group’s first investment in the North was 35 years ago its latest expansion programme in Derry marks its four re-investment project in just seven years.

Greg McDaid, client managing director - Northern Ireland at Fujitsu UK & Ireland, said the Derry investment boost confirmed the group’s commitment to the North.

“This business services centre will now form an important part of our overall strategy to achieve business growth in this region and the choice of Timber Quay is a reflection on the highly skilled and motivated workforce as well as the excellent telecommunications infrastructure that we know exist here.

“These qualities, coupled with the support offered by Invest NI made this the obvious choice when we considered potential locations for this investment.”

Invest NI is providing financial support of £990,000 towards the cost of Fujitsu’s latest Derry investment, the group anticipates it will invest around £12 million in the project over the next three years.

Fujitsu said it will create a wide range of critical business support jobs in Derry including administration, financial, procurement and human resources positions that will support Fujitsu’s internal operations. It also intends to recruit new technical and software staff to support its ongoing work for private and public sector customers in the UK and Europe.
