US carrier Continental Airlines is contesting a proposed alliance between American Airlines and British Airways, saying it will undermine competition, the company said yesterday.

Continental, the fifth-largest US carrier, filed a petition with the British Office of Fair Trading, the European Commission and the US Department of Labor disputing the planned link that would create the world's most powerful alliance.
