Salesforce Tower: Decision on extra floors deferred by council

Dublin City Council has deferred until the end of May a decision on Johnny Ronan's plan for additional floors on his Salesforce Tower development in Dublin's docklands.

The city council was due to make a decision on Mr Ronan's Spencer Place Development Co Ltd plan this week.

However, the planning authority has deferred a decision on the scheme until May 31st following a request to do so from consultants for Mr Ronan, John Spain Associates, last Friday. No reason is provided in the request from Mr Ronan's consultants.

The application is seeking an increase of 23 per cent of total floor area to 72,559 sq m (781,018 sq ft) in the interconnected Salesforce tower that includes 60,259 sq m (648,622 sq ft) of office space. Construction work on the Salesforce Tower, which will accommodate 3,500 workers, is continuing. The planned additional floors could accommodate an additional 1,000 workers.

Mr Spain has said the application provides for only a modest increase in height.

He has argued that the restrictive nature of the Strategic Development Zone Planning Scheme, which allows for six to eight storeys, “is a direct contradiction to national planning guidance which seeks to promote development in key urban sites adjacent to high quality public transport networks”.
