Lough Derg marina at Cloondavaun Bay has €2.5m asking price

CBRE’s facility near Portumna, Co Galway, has easy access to Dublin-Galway motorway

Another marina on Lough Derg is to be offered for sale. Robert Colleran of CBRE is seeking in excess of €2.5 million for the 50-berth Cloondavaun Bay Marina near Portumna, Co Galway, which is expected to appeal to investors and sailing enthusiasts.

The marina is located on a 20-acre site with 885m of frontage on to the lake and a range of other services including a storage warehouse for large boats, facilities building, workshop, fuel depot, ancillary offices, store rooms and a large detached four-bedroom house.

Less than two years ago, CBRE secured €1.7 million for the 7.8-acre Lough Derg Marina at Killaloe, Co Clare, which was then in a derelict condition and in need of complete refurbishment. The marina had previously changed hands in 2006 for €8 million.

Lough Derg is the second-largest fresh water lake in Ireland with shores in Galway, southwest Clare and east Tipperary and a link in to the river Shannon.

The marina is located 12km to the southwest of Portumna with easy access to the M7 Dublin-Galway motorway and the M7 Limerick-Dublin motorway. There is a one-hour commuting time to both Limerick and Galway cities and two hours and 10 minutes to Dublin.

Colleran said that, subject to planning, Cloondavaun was most suited for additional water-related tourism facilities such as private berthing and leisure amenities. He understood that a channel entrance had been provided which would allow the marina to accommodate a further 70 to 100 boats.
