Emporia Tablet offers easier way to keep older users connected

Tech Tools: Simpler interface, and a detailed manual for everyday tasks

A new tablet aimed at older users has gone on sale in Ireland, offering a simpler user interface and features tailored to an older age group.

Available through An Post, the Emporia Tablet (€399) is designed to make it easier to get online. The 10.1 inch Android tablet has a simpler menu structure, large icons and a charging cradle that also works for video calling and hands-free use, alongside its voice controls. The case is brushed aluminium and sturdy, and the tablet has extra features such as amplified sound to help those who are hard of hearing.

One of its unique selling points is a printed training book that guides users through more common apps, such as WhatsApp and Facebook, so users can build their knowledge and confidence without having to ask others for help.

It isn’t dependent on broadband either; although the Emporia Tablet has wifi capabilities, it also comes with a built-in mobile 4G connection that can be used with An Post’s data network.
