Navan Preview:Yeats gets his fifth season of racing under way at Navan tomorrow when the double Group One winner has to concede weight all round in the Listed Vintage Crop Stakes.
Aidan O'Brien's star has recovered from the exertions of trying to follow in the footsteps of Vintage Crop in Australia last November when he faded out of the places under topweight in the Melbourne Cup.
A return down under hasn't been ruled out for later in the year but Yeats's first major target will be a repeat attempt on the Ascot Gold Cup in June which he won so impressively last season.
With that in mind, it looks significant that Yeats is ready for a run so comparatively early in the campaign and although he has up to 10lb to give way tomorrow, he has also won first time out in three of his four previous seasons.
Kevin Manning can hardly be accused of taking things easy ahead of next weekend's momentous Guineas dates with Teofilo and Finsceal Beo as he takes in both Navan and Gowran tomorrow.
The jockey has less than an hour to get from Kilkenny to Meath for the ride on La Conquistadora in the mile fillies race and he will also be fancying his chances in the concluding handicap on board Asafa who was hampered in running behind Magnum Force at Leopardstown last weekend.
Down at Gowran the heavily penalised Namaya will also be a major player in the mile handicap for the Bolger-Manning team.
With Michael Kinane in Hong Kong this weekend, Fran Berry takes over at Gowran and he can be fancied on board the 98-rated Eyshal who can break his duck at the seventh time of asking in the first.
Ridgewood Pearl's grand-daughter Joshua's Princess will appreciate the mile trip in the fillies maiden but this is a hot little race where Peeping Fawn may be able to reverse Curragh placings with Regalline.
