Weather watch: Racing survives but GAA fixtures abandoned

Oh the weather outside is frightful, and as a result a number of sporting events and fixtures have been cancelled in Ireland and the UK on Sunday.

There’s still plenty to be enjoyed, though - here’s a run through what is, and isn’t, going ahead.

GAA

It takes a hardy soul to turn out to play club football in December, but conditions have proved a step too far with both of Sunday’s fixtures postponed. They include the Leinster SFC club final between Moorefield (Kildare) and St Loman’s (Westmeath).

Corofin’s All-Ireland SFC club quarter-final against Fulham Irish, in Ruislip, has also been called off.

Racing

Sunday’s two big Irish meetings, at Cork and Punchestown, are both underway. The going at Cork is soft to heavy, the ground at Punchestown is heavy - Gold Cup hero Sizing John is set to run.

Across the Irish sea however the cards at at Huntingdon and Kelso have both been scrapped.

Rugby

The south of England has been hammered by snow but Ulster’s Champions Cup clash with Harlequins is underway while Leinster’s clash with Exeter on Sunday evening is also set to go ahead.

To the north of London, Saracens' clash with Clermont has been called off.

Football

Both the Manchester and Merseyside derbies are set to go ahead.
