FAIRYHOUSE HAS a 7.30 inspection this morning to see if racing gets the green light, and the Punchestown authorities are also predicting a “close call” if tomorrow’s double Grade Two card is to go ahead.

Up to 20mm of rain is forecast for Punchestown before tonight and, with the ground already heavy, fingers are being kept crossed at the Co Kildare track that racing can proceed.

“Met Éireann are predicting we will get 20mm by Saturday night and if they are correct it will be a close call,” Punchestown manager Richie Galway said yesterday. “We will need to keep an eye on it during Saturday.”

There will be an early eye on Fairyhouse this morning with the going already heavy, and manager Caroline Grey reported: “We won’t be able to take a lot more rain and up to 15mm is forecast.”
