Indiscipline and lack of professionalism ensured nine-man Juventus crashed out of the Champions League in Athens last night, beaten 3-1 by Panath inaikos in Group E. The loss completed a spectacular fall from grace for Juve, as they ended their campaign with two defeats.

With the game at 1-1 after 55 minutes, Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar produced the latest in a long line of blunders, conceding a penalty and earning a red card for a second bookable offence, dragging down Angelos Basinas, who converted the resultant penalty.

On 64 minutes Poland's Krzysztof Warzycha made it 3-1. Any faint hopes of a Juventus comeback were killed off two minutes later when Yugoslav forward Darko Kovacevic was red carded - again after two cautions - the latter for handball.
