MEATH CLAIMED a semi-final spot in dramatic fashion while Kildare were relegated from Division 1A of the Bord Gáis Energy Ladies National Football League on Sunday. Those were the main talking points after the final round of regulation group fixtures, with semi-final match-ups revealed.

Holders Cork will face Meath, who edged out Laois for fourth spot, while Dublin are due to face Monaghan in the last four. At Naomh Mearnóg, last year’s beaten finalists Laois faced Dublin knowing a win would be enough to secure a semi-final place.

But Dublin ran out 0-11 to 0-8 winners. Sinéad Aherne, Orlagh Egan and Amy McGuinness scored three points each while Olivia Leonard and Natalia Hyland grabbed a point apiece.

Meanwhile, Monaghan confirmed Kildare’s relegation with a 0-18 to 0-8 victory at Aughnamullen. Monaghan led by 0-9 to 0-4 at half-time but pulled away in the second half. Catríona McConnell scored four points for Monaghan while Niamh Kindlon and Laura McEnaney obliged with 0-3 each.

Elsewhere, Cork’s 2-10 to 0-11 victory over Tyrone in Killyclogher ensured a 100 per cent record so far this season for the League and All-Ireland champions.

At Convoy, Meath beat hosts Donegal by 4-6 to 0-8 to squeeze into that precious fourth position on the table, finishing just a point clear of Laois.
