Waterford Utd - 0 UCD - 0: After languishing at the bottom of the league table for so long, Waterford United have climbed above Bray Wanderers by virtue of this hard-won point against UCD at the RSC last night.

Both sides had opportunities to score in a game often played at breakneck speed but the Blues looked the more likely to shade the contest.

Most of the scoring chances occurred in the first half and UCD should have opened their account on 25 minutes when Derek Doyle blazed over the bar from 15 yards after being put through by Gary Dicker.

On 33 minutes, United's Ger McCarthy headed wide of the upright from close range, and before the break UCD goalkeeper Darren Quigley produced good saves to deny McCarthy again and, later, Alan Cawley.

WATERFORD UNITED: Spicer; Flynn, Hedderman, Kealy, Hayes; Grant, Chambers, P McCarthy, G McCarthy; Cawley, Kavanagh (Brosnan, 32 minutes). Subs not used: McDonald, Browne, Russell, Dunphy.

UCD: Quigley, Mahon, Ryan, Kenna, McNally, McDonnell, McWalter, Dicker, Sammon, Byrne (Purcell, 68 minutes), Doyle. Subs not used: Kavanagh, McMillan, Harte, Hussey.

Referee: Mark Gough (Limerick).
