UCD began brightly but fell behind to a 17th-minute Brian O'Regan header before Peter Murphy got himself on the end of a Fintan Doherty corner to level from close range five minutes later. Six minutes later Conor Boyle headed UCD into the lead after challenging Trinity goalkeeper Joe Davitt.

Robbie Martin sealed victory for UCD, striking for the goal of the game a minute from time from outside the box.
