The death has occurred in Summerhill, Nenagh, of Tom McInerney (93), the second last survivor of the Clare hurling team which reached the 1932 All-Ireland final and was narrowly defeated by Kilkenny. Up until three years ago, it had been the last Clare side to win a Munster title.

Only John Joe "Goggles" Doyle, captain of the team, survives. Like John Joe Doyle, Tom McInerney was a defender and played for his home club, O'Callaghan's Mills.

He later moved to Tipperary where he was a teacher in Killeen NS.
