Tom Hainsworth's president's prize brought out the best in Portarlington's golfers last week with Seamus McGurrell taking the top award and Ivan Lawlor setting a new course record. McGurrell (20) shot a five-under-par 66 nett to beat Lawlor's gross 66. However, Lawlor, a four handicap student at the local CBS, was ineligible for the top prize but he did have the satisfaction a bettering Michael Turley's old record of 67. Fr Michael Noonan took third prize on 67 with the gross going to PJ Dempsey on 76.
