West Ham 1-3 Bolton: Gianfranco Zola suffered his first Premier League defeat as manager of West Ham United today when Bolton Wanderers won 3-1 at Upton Park.
Goalkeeper Robert Green was at fault twice in the first half as Bolton built a 2-0 lead. He dropped a routine high ball at the feet of Kevin Davies after 30 minutes and less than five minutes later failed to hold a skidding shot from Gretar Steinsson and Gary Cahill pounced on the rebound.
Carlton Cole headed West Ham back into contention with 22 minutes remaining but Bolton made sure of their first away points of the season when Matthew Taylor beat Green with a swerving free kick.
West Ham, who could have gone temporarily top of the table with victory, remain on 12 points from seven games. Bolton moved away from the bottom three to seven points.
The battle for the top spot in continued later on Sunday with leaders Chelsea at home to fourth-placed Aston Villa and second-placed Liverpool away at Manchester City.
