The Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland is inviting applications for the fifth Brendan McKenna Memorial Award for aspiring football journalists.

The award, launched by former Rep of Ireland manager Brian Kerr on Tuesday, is open to third level students looking to break into football journalism.

"We're delighted to launch the fifth instalment of the Brendan McKenna Memorial Award, a fantastic competition for third level students which can act as a pathway into Irish football journalism," said SWAI President Paul Buttner.

“In existence since 1961, the SWAI is a proud organisation which caters for journalists across all media platforms. We hope the competition will again prove popular as we look forward to a record year for entries.”
