Aritricity League round-up:Shamrock Roves maintained their slender advantage at the top of the Aritricity League Premier Division as bitter rivals Bohemians were sent packing at the Tallaght Stadium this evening.

Karl Sheppard’s goal five minutes from the interval was enough to hand Rovers the points but with Sligo, Derry, St Pat’s and Bray all winning there is precious little breathing space at the top of the table.

The breakthrough came just before the half-time whistle when a somewhat speculative cross from Gary McCabe on the left found the forehead of Sheppard at Bohemians’ back post.

Covering defender Price, who would be sent off for a professional foul after the break, seemed rooted to the spot as Sheppard’s header flew across a similarly stationary O’Connor and inside the far post.

Dundalk’s eight match unbeaten run came to an end at the Showgrounds last night when an Alan Kirby goal gave Sligo Rovers all three points. Kirby put the home side ahead in the 55th minute, rifling the ball past Peter Cherrie after Colin Hawkins had blocked a shot by Aaron Greene.

Eamon Zayed enjoyed a night to remember as Derry City destroyed a hapless Galway 6-0 at the Brandywell. Patrick McEleney opened the scoring in the 7th minute before James McClean drilled a low shot into Greg Fleming’s net on 20 minutes.

Zayed then got the first of his four goals on the stroke of half-time and would get the better of Fleming another three times after the break as Derry kept pace with the top two.

In-form strikers Danny North and Daryl Kavanagh made it five goals between them from three games as St. Patrick’s Athletic proved too good for UCD.

With a tight game level at 1-1, Kavanagh struck on 68 minutes before North then struck on 82 minutes to clinch it with the goal of the game.

Bray maintained their push towards the upper echelons of the table with a 1-0 win in Drogheda. The visitors hit the front in bizarre circumstances on 32 minutes when a harmless cross was turned into his own net by Stephen Quigley.

Drogheda had chances to force the equaliser but could not get back on terms and remain in deep trouble.
