Robbie Keane continues to top the list of Irish earners in the MLS by quite a distance but recent arrivals at LA Galaxy, Steven Gerrard and Giovani Dos Santos, both take home bigger pay packets according to the new salary list published by the players' union.
Keane’s contract guarantees him fractionally over €4 million in 2015 while the corresponding figures for Gerrard and Dos Santos are on €5.7 million and €5.16 million respectively.
Some other recent arrivals are on considerably less despite their profile and previous achievements with veteran starts Didier Drogba and Andrea Pirlo, now with Montreal and New York respectively, each on less than €2 million per annum.
Frank Lampard will earn €5.39 million in his first year at NYC and Kaka €6.43 million at Orlando. More remarkable, perhaps, is Jozy Altidore's €4.26 million deal with Toronto where Michael Bradley earns almost as much as Kaka.
By comparison, Seán St Ledger is on €132,000 at Colorado where Kevin Doyle earns €1.05 million but former Republic of Ireland under-21 international Conor Doyle highlights the reality for a great many players in the league with the former Derby County midfielder, now with DC United, earning a salary of just €54,000.
