Sligo Rovers rejoined Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic at the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division thanks to a resounding 4-0 defeat of Bohemians at the Showgrounds on Saturday evening.

Teenager Johnny Kenny claimed his first senior hat-trick, with Ryan de Vries also on the scoresheet as the Bit O'Red scored twice in each half.

Kenny was quickest to react when James Talbot saved Jordan Gibson's shot from the edge of the box to open the scoring after 13 minutes.

The youngster was integral to the second 10 minutes later, as he spread the ball wide to Lewis Banks, who worked a one-two with Mark Byrne before crossing for Kenny inside the area, and the striker's shot deflected to the net off Rob Cornwall.

The visitors controversially had an early second-half goal from Georgie Kelly ruled out for offside.

And De Vries made it 3-0 soon after when he showed great composure inside the area to turn two defenders and fire past Talbot.

Kenny, who also hit the woodwork twice on the night, wrapped things up with the fourth in the final 10 minutes, after latching on to Gibson’s pass and shooting home with his left foot.
