Ollie Horgan to remain as manager with relegated Finn Harps

Finn Harps have kept faith with manager Ollie Horgan despite the club's relegation from the Premier Division of the Airtricity League at the end of last season.

The 49 year-old, who was originally appointed to the job in late 2013, oversaw the club’s promotion from the first division two years later and its survival in the top flight the following season despite operating on a very tight budget.

Last year, however, Harps were unable to match the achievement and were relegated in 11th place, eight points clear of Drogheda United but nine adrift of safety. Despite that, the club has indicated that they see Horgan as the man to lead the team in what promises to be a particularly competitive 10 team first division next season and the former Fanad United boss says that he will start putting together a squad immediately.

Dundalk, meanwhile, have confirmed that midfielder Robbie Benson has signed a new one year deal. The 25 year-old scored 12 goals in 37 appearances for the Oriel Park outfit last season and had been linked with a move away, most notably to Scotland, and was believed to have been of interest to other League of Ireland clubs.

The former Athlone Town and UCD player has now committed to at least one more campaign with Stephen Kenny’s side, however, and says he hopes to continue his development. “I improved a lot last year,” he said, “and hopefully that continues again.”
