Cork City sign Gavan Holohan from Drogheda

Midfielder joins the Leesiders after an impressive 2014 season

Cork City have announced the signing of 22-year-old midfielder Gavan Holohan from Drogheda United.

Holohan joins the Leesiders after an impressive 2014 campaign, which saw them pipped to the title by Dundalk in the final game, and hopes his new side can go one better next term.

Holohan said: “It didn’t take much persuasion for me to come to a club like Cork City, especially after the season they have had.

“Once I spoke to (Cork manager) John (Caulfield) and he told me his plans, for me personally and the team, I wanted to get it done and get it signed as quickly as possible.

“I want to help the team and maybe we can go one better than this season.”

Caulfield welcomed Holohan, who scored five times in 27 appearances for The Drogs in 2014, to Turners Cross, he said: "I'm delighted to sign Gavin.

“It is a real opportunity for him, coming down to a huge club and coming into a fantastic group of players. I’m hoping we can bring the best out of him, because he has huge potential.”

Holohan is City's second signing of the summer following Karl Shepperd's move from Shamrock Rovers, while Ross Gaynor has also committed his future to the club.
