Premier League Review: Chelsea stayed top of the Premier League today with a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge while Liverpool kept up their title challenge with a stunning comeback to defeat Manchester City 3-2.

The Reds looked just about down and out at the break when they went in trailing 2-0 to the rampant home side.

Stephen Ireland (19) and Javier Garrido (41) were both on target as Mark Hughes' side took early control

But Torres sparked a Reds revival by pulling one back on 55 minutes and then City's Pablo Zabaleta was sent off as the visitors took control.

Torres added a second to level things up 17 minutes from the end before Dirk Kuyt rammed the ball home from close range in stoppage time to cap a dramatic fightback.

Liverpool remain level on points with Chelsea at the top of the table after the Blues comfortably saw off Aston Villa 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The home side had few problems in taking three points despite the injury crisis that is afflicting Luiz Felipe Scolari's squad.

First-half goals from Joe Cole and Nicolas Anelka kept Scolari's men at the summit, and it could have been more but for the reflexes of Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

The hosts, already without the services of Didier Drogba, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho and Michael Essien, were missing Alex from their starting line-up and then saw midfielder Cole limp off.

Anelka, struggling with muscle spasms before the match, was also taken off at the break meaning Franco di Santo was Scolari's frontline striker for 45 minutes.

The pressure on Tottenham boss Juande Ramos grew yet further s they flopped to a 1-0 home defeat by Hull.

A brilliant first-half free-kick from Brazilian Geovanni did the damage to continue the Tigers' brilliant arrival in the top flight for the first time in their history.

Their wonderful start has now taken them to third place in the league table but of more immediate relevance was Tottenham's third home league defeat of the season which left them stranded rock bottom of the Premier League with just two points and had Hull fans revelling in their misery.

Newcastle hit back from two goals down against Everton to claim a 2-2 draw and give stand-in manager Joe Kinnear a welcome point.

Everton cruised into a two-goal lead at Goodison Park thanks to Mikel Arteta's penalty and £15million midfielder Marouane Fellaini's first for the club.

But Steven Taylor pulled one back a minute from the break with a far-post header and then made the equaliser for Damien Duff a minute into the second period.

Bolton beat West Ham 3-1 at Upton Park to end new boss Gianfranco Zola's 100 percent Premier League record.

A howler from England goalkeeper Robert Green helped the Trotters take all three points with an impressive performance in the capital.

Green dropped a high ball at the feet of Kevin Davies after 30 minutes and the Trotters hitman made no mistake.

And soon after the wet conditions again played their part as Green failed to hold Gretar Steinsson's shot and Gary Cahill bundled home the rebound from close range.

Carlton Cole gave the Hammers a a lifeline on the hour but substitute Matthew Taylor made sure of victory win with a stunning 30-yard free-kick four minutes from time.

Portsmouth's little and large strike pairing of Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch were among the goals as Harry Redknapp's side defied a physical test from Stoke to win 2-1 at Fratton Park.

Pompey, in their seventh match in 22 days, went ahead through Crouch's spectacular 25th-minute overhead volley after Dave Kitson missed a golden chance for the visitors, who had two good shouts for penalties denied.

Stoke scrambled an equaliser from former Pompey striker Ricardo Fuller three minutes after the break but Defoe, who hit a post, restored his side's lead on two minutes later.
