League leaders share spoils at Turner’s Cross

Cork City remain top of the SSE Airtricity Division, but only on goal difference , after a frustrating draw against Bohemians at a wet and windy Turner's Cross.

Billy Dennehy's penalty was cancelled out through the head of Jason Byrne minutes later and the away side will feel they should have come away with all three points after a host of chances in the second half.

Gearóid Morrissey fired wide after a good run early on, before Dennehy almost slid in at the back post following excellent build-up play involving Liam Kearney and Garry Buckley.

Bohemians had their first effort just before the half hour, Craig Walsh’s shot comfortably saved by an edgy Mark McNulty.

Bohemians had a golden chance to take the lead just after the break; good work down the left side by Karl Moore set up Dave Mulcahy, but the Gypsy's captain blazed over from five yards.

City took the lead minutes later, as after good work from Kearney, Derek Pender fouled Mark O’Sullivan and Dennehy made no mistake from 12 yards.

The away side immediately hit back; a short corner led to a fantastic cross by Paddy Kavanagh that Byrne nodded in at the back post.

Bohemians pressed on and, having just seen additional time announced, Kevin Devaney rattled the bar. But It was the City fans who left angered as Mark O'Sullivan poked a ball spilled by Lee Murphy through the legs of the Bohemians custodian. However referee Neil Doyle blew for a foul.
