Wolves 1 Sunderland 1:A late equaliser by Stephen Elliott earned Sunderland, managed by Roy Keane, a 1-1 draw with Mick McCarthy's Wolverhampton Wanderers in their second division clash on Friday.

Elliott scored for the visitors with a deflected close-range shot in the 80th minute after Jemal Johnson had rifled Wolves ahead in the first half thanks to a spectacular 25-metre strike.

Wolves climbed to seventh position with 28 points from 19 matches. Sunderland, on 24 points, remained 16th in the 24-team division.

Old adversaries McCarthy and Keane shook hands before the match amid a mass of photographers.

Former Manchester United and Ireland captain Keane was sent home from his country's 2002 World Cup squad after a furious row with then-manager McCarthy over the team's preparations.

Keane and McCarthy settled their differences last month in a phone call about possible transfers.
