Irish fans organise Dublin charity match in aid of Ukraine

Republic of Ireland supporters group You Boys in Green have organised a charity match in aid of Ukraine Red Cross.

The match between Ireland fans and Irish-based Ukrainians will take place at Home Farm FC in Whitehall on Friday at 7.30pm.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland and the Ukrainian ambassador Larysa Gerasko are expected to be in attendance. Folk music group Catalpa will perform after the game.

John O’Neill from You Boys in Green on Thursday told RTÉ 2FM’s Game On said a number of supporters went to a fans’ tournament in Lviv 10 years ago and that is where the connection started.

Home Farm chairman Eamonn Mahon told The Irish Times the Ukrainian national anthem would be sung before the game and clubs from around north Dublin would provide ball boys and ball girls.

Tickets are available for €10 at futureticketing.ie, or at the gate. Virtual tickets can also be purchased. At least 500 tickets have been sold so far. The ground's capacity is 2,000 people.

YBIG said all proceeds would go to the Red Cross to help the humanitarian effort.
