John O’Shea (Capt.) — Enjoyed a comfortable afternoon in central defence with little threat coming his way. 6.

James McCarthy — Tidy in possession and diligent in support of his defenders. 6.

Jeff Hendrick — Quietly efficient wide on the right in the first half and then slotted into the middle of midfield as manager Martin O'Neill shuffled his pack. 5.

Glenn Whelan — Steady in central midfield on an afternoon when the tempo was such that he was never over-extended. 5.

Aiden McGeady — Started in lively fashion and kept full-back Phil Jones on his toes, but faded as time wore on. 5.

Robbie Brady — Did his job at left-back and produced many of the Republic's better moments from dead ball situations. 7.

Daryl Murphy — Combative, but passed up two excellent first-half opportunities to give Ireland the lead. 5.
