Paul McShane trains while Harry Arter sidelined

Martin O’Neill’s squad update ahead of Sunday’s friendly with England

Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter sat out the Republic of Ireland’s training session yesterday because of a bruised foot. The 25-year-old is expected to return this morning when Martin O’Neill and his squad return to the Aviva stadium.

Paul McShane took part in the session but avoided contact work as he recovers from a thigh injury.

Stephen Ward and Aiden McGeady both took a full part in the run-out.

Jon Walters, Marc Wilson and Shane Long didn’t arrive in Dublin in time to train but all are expected to be involved today. There is some uncertainty about when Wes Hoolahan will join up due to a family bereavement.
