Protecting a 2-0 lead from the first leg, City were within five minutes of a place in the last eight when the Danes staged a late fightback.

Goals from Luton Shelton and Michael Jakobsen took the tie to extra-time which ended goalless.

The game went to penalties and goalkeeper Shay Given spared City’s blushes by saving from Thomas Augustinussen and Shelton.
