Víctor Valdés agrees terms with Besiktas ahead of Manchester United exit

Goalkeeper joined United last season before being frozen out by Louis van Gaal

Víctor Valdés has agreed terms with Besiktas after Senol Gunes, the coach, gave the green light to sign the Manchester United goalkeeper who has been frozen out by Louis van Gaal.

Valdés had a long-standing offer from Antalyaspor, who were promoted to the Super Lig this season, but it is understood he is intent on joining Besiktas.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper was left out of Manchester United’s summer tour of the United States after Van Gaal became unhappy at the attitude displayed by Valdés when he refused to play for the reserve side towards the end of last season.

Valdés had been expected to compete with David de Gea this season. Instead the 33-year-old was not given a squad number and has been forced to watch United's opening matches of the new season from the stands, along with De Gea, who has also been dropped by Van Gaal after becoming unsettled by interest from Real Madrid.

Gunes had decided against signing a goalkeeper but changed his mind due to doubts over the reliability of Tolga Zengin, the first choice for Besiktas. Zengin was at fault during Besiktas's Europa League defeat to Club Brugge in March. The Belgian club face United on Wednesday evening in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier.
