Liverpool are without Fabinho following the death of his father. Fellow midfielders Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara could both be in contention for their first appearances of the season following their exploits at Euro 2020.

Burnley will have an unchanged squad for the trip to Anfield. Midfielder Dale Stephens and defender Kevin Long both missed the opening-day defeat to Brighton and they will remain absent as they continue their recoveries following surgery.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has confirmed Joe Willock will be included in his squad after completing his permanent move to the club from Arsenal. But Jonjo Shelvey has been ruled out after sustaining a fresh calf injury in the opening day home defeat to West Ham.

Young Irish centre back Andrew Omobamidele is back in full training again following tonsillitis, so could come into contention, along with winger Onel Hernandez, who has been building up fitness after an enforced lay-off because of Covid-19.
