Burnley broke their transfer record to recruit Robbie Brady from Norwich on deadline day.

The Republic of Ireland international signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor for an undisclosed fee.

But the Clarets confirmed the sum eclipsed the £10.5million they paid Derby for Jeff Hendrick last summer.

Brady spent 18 months at Norwich, having joined from Hull for £7million, and was part of the team relegated from the Premier League last season.

He was the second new arrival at Burnley on Tuesday with Sean Dyche also signing Ashley Westwood from Aston Villa.

Southampton were also busy signing striker Manolo Gabbiadini on a four-and-a-half-year contract from Napoli. The 25-year-old is likely to cost the Saints an initial £14million and has won six caps for Italy.

Earlier in the day the club confirmed the loan signing of goalkeeper Mouez Hassen from Nice until the end of the season.

Manchester City made a surprise late signing of midfielder Yangel Herrera according to Atletico Venezuela.

The Venezuelan club’s official Twitter account confirmed their 19-year-old player had joined City, although there was no word from the English side.

Crystal Palace completed the loan signing of Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, having sealed a deal for Luka Milivojevic, who signed a three-and-a-half year contract, from Olympiacos.

Middlesbrough captured Adlene Guedioura from Watford with Odion Ighalo also leaving the Hornets for China.

The striker joined Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai for an undisclosed fee, although it was reported to be around £20million.

Ighalo was also linked with a move to West Brom but that would only have been as part of a swap for Saido Berahino, who did not want to move to Watford.

Albion did decide to bring in Marc Wilson from Bournemouth on loan with the 29-year-old having played under boss Tony Pulis at Stoke between 2010 and 2013.

Swansea swapped Neil Taylor for Jordan Ayew with Aston Villa, with Villa expected to bank £5million as well.

It had been slow progress for Premier League clubs before the evening, with Emmanuel Adebayor’s move to Turkish Super Lig team Istanbul Basaksehir one of the headlines.

Later on Hull announced the arrival of Italy international Andrea Ranocchia from Inter Milan and Alfred N'Diaye from Villarreal on loan for the season.

Over an hour after the deadline Kamil Grosicki was also confirmed by the Tigers, the Poland winger signing from Rennes.

Football League teams were significantly busier earlier in the day. As well as Blackburn re-signing Marvin Emnes, 28, on loan from Swansea until the end of the season, Sergi Canos joined Brentford permanently from Norwich.

The Canaries then signed Mitchell Dijks on loan from Ajax and Yanic Wildschut from Wigan for around £7million to replace Brady.

Aston Villa, fresh from losing 3-0 at Brentford, announced the signing of striker Scott Hogan on a four-and-a-half year deal from the Bees while Villa misfit Ross McCormack joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the rest of the season, joining Zach Clough, who moved from Bolton.

Championship leaders Brighton also completed a permanent deal for Glenn Murray, 33, who has scored 15 goals in 28 appearances since rejoining them on loan from Bournemouth in the summer.

Ravel Morrison headed to QPR from Lazio, Wolves took Ben Marshall from Blackburn and David Cotterill was allowed to rejoin Bristol City on loan from Birmingham.

Their promotion rivals Reading, meanwhile, signed Jordon Mutch from Crystal Palace, Reece Oxford from West Ham and Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban for the rest of the season.
