Republic of Ireland international David McGoldrick netted the winner as Sheffield United replaced Leeds at the top of the Sky Bet Championship with a 1-0 victory over struggling Hull at Bramall Lane.

The former Ipswich striker stepped up to convert from the penalty spot in the 70th minute after Jack O’Connell was manhandled in the area.

West Brom moved second, one point behind the Blades, after Dwight Gayle scored twice in a 4-1 victory against lowly Reading at the Hawthorns.

Leandro Bacuna fired the visitors into a sixth-minute lead, but the Baggies responded through on-loan Newcastle striker Gayle’s eight and ninth goals of the season.

Ipswich secured their first win of the campaign after Trevoh Chalobah's late effort secured a 3-2 victory versus Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

The on-loan Chelsea defender popped up with the winner six minutes from time after Bersant Celina had looked to have secured a point for the Swans.

A Gwion Williams header and a Mike van der Hoorn own goal had completed a fine turnaround in the space of four first half minutes for Town, who went behind in the ninth minute when Janoi Donacien found his own net.

Geoff Cameron cancelled out Jack Marriott's opener to secure QPR a 1-1 draw with Derby at Loftus Road.

Preston moved off the bottom of the table with a 4-0 victory over 10-man Wigan, who had Darron Gibson sent off at Deepdale.

Republic of Ireland striker Callum Robinson scored twice and strikes from Tom Barkhuizen and Paul Gallagher helped Preston earn Lancashire bragging rights.

Lukas Jutkiewicz scored a hat-trick as Birmingham beat Rotherham 3-1 to secure their first home win of the season at St Andrew's.
