Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson is set to make his return for Everton this weekend after 10 months on the sidelines.
The 26-year-old from Derry suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in last October’s World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan and has been sidelined since.
Named yesterday in Martin O’Neill’s extended 36-man squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers, Gibson could play some part in Everton’s Premier League clash against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The news will be a big boost to Everton boss Roberto Martinez after it was announced that England international midfielder Ross Barkley faces a lengthy lay-off after he suffered a medial ligament injury in training.
Republic of Ireland right back Séamus Coleman (hamstring) is also fit after appearing as a late substitute at Leicester last week but striker Arouna Kone (knee) and midfielder Bryan Oviedo (leg) are not yet ready.
