Cork City play out friendly draw with Oman

Oman at Turners Cross ahead of friendly aganist Martin O’Neill’s Ireland

Cork City 1 -1 Oman

Cork City and Oman played out a draw in a friendly at Turners Cross on Tuesday.

The game marked a very good opportunity for City manager John Caulfield to have a look at some of his very talented crop of U19 players, who were mixed in a starting eleven with some of the current first team squad.

One player who made his long awaited return from injury was full back John Kavanagh, who has been out since last year.

The opening half was competitive and it was Cork who took the lead, when a Gavan Holohan effort went into the top left hand corner from inside the box.

Oman equalized shortly after, when Al Khaldi was on hand to put the ball into the back of the net with a clinical finish, following Al-Maqbali's through ball.

In the second half, City came closest to scoring a second, as Oman keeper Al Rusheidi made a number of brilliant one handed saves to deny headers just moments apart from Mark O'Sullivan and Chiedozie Ogbene.

Oman, who play Martin O’Neill’s Ireland side next Wednesday, play another League Of Ireland side before that on Friday, when they face Limerick in Market’s Field.
