Celtic in party mode with six goal thrashing of Motherwell

Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis both score twice on final day of season

Celtic 6 Motherwell 0

Champions Celtic turned the last day of the Scottish Premiership season into a party as they thumped Motherwell 6-0 at Parkhead.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis both scored twice for Ange Postecoglu’s men, who had clinched their 10th title in 11 years at Dundee United on Wednesday night.

Furuhashi pounced on a mistake by Victor Nirennold to put his side in front in the 22nd minute and the Japanese star added his second before the break, shortly after David Turnbull had made it two.

Celtic were in no mood to let up after the interval with Jota sweeping home the fourth on the hour before substitute Giakoumakis completed the rout by netting in the 68th minute and again in stoppage time.

A much-changed Rangers side still had enough to wrap up their domestic campaign with a 3-1 win at Hearts.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst rested all his big names ahead of his side’s Europa League final in Seville on Wednesday and it threatened to backfire when Peter Haring gave Hearts the lead.

Hearts — who face Rangers again in next weekend’s Scottish Cup final — lost Liam Boyce to a groin strain in the first half as Rangers hit back to turn the tie around.

Cedric Itten and Alex Lowry put the visitors in front before half-time and debutant Cole McKinnon wrapped up victory late on.

Dundee United secured fourth place with a 2-1 win at Ross County in a match marred by the behaviour of the visiting fans.

Blair Spittal gave the home side a 66th minute lead but Nicky Clark equalised from the penalty spot and found the net again five minutes from time.

The game was delayed by visiting fans throwing beach balls and pyrotechnics on to the pitch, and again after Clark’s winner by a pitch invasion that left one of their own players requiring treatment.
