Bohan strikes twice as Claregalway claim glory

Two late goals from winger seals FAI Schools National Girls Cup for Galway college

Claregalway College 2-0 Presentation Secondary School Thurles

Two late goals from winger Elisha Bohan helped Claregalway College win their first FAI Schools National Girls Cup in an entertaining final clash.

An inswinging Claregalway free kick in the first minute of the game was met by the foot of captain Shauna Brennan who volleyed into the Pres net.

However, the stunning flick was ruled offside and the score remained 0-0 for the majority of the game.

Kate Slevin terrorised the Thurles defence with her dangerous deliveries from set pieces, narrowly missing the target with one effort as Claregalway dominated the opening half.

Still scoreless after the restart, Thurles looked to be coming into their own. Ciara and Caitlin Shelly had stormers at right back and goalkeeper respectively, both combining to keep the dangerous Brennan quiet following her disallowed goal.

Thurles almost broke the deadlock through Grace Flanagan – but after a great run her shot was straight at Claregalway keeper Leah O’Halloran.

However, Bohan’s first goal from a tap in with ten minutes remaining gave the girls from the West the confidence they needed to push on and win the game.

She followed that up with a long-range strike from outside the box two minutes later, her low shot fizzing into the bottom corner of the Thurles net.
