Champions League review:Nicolas Anelka got a goal in each half as Chelsea comfortably negotiated the away leg in their Champions League round of 16 tie against FC Copenhagen, while Karim Benzema came off the bench to score for Real Madrid in Lyon before Bafetimbi Gomis rescued a draw for the Ligue 1 side at Stade de Gerland.

Danish champions Copenhagen, in the knockout round for the first time, held Barcelona at the Parken Stadium in the group phase but were brushed aside in the first leg by Carlo Ancelotti's men who are firmly on track to reach the quarter-finals.

Anelka punished former Chelsea player Jesper Gronkjaer for a sloppy pass in the 17th minute, putting the visitors ahead with a lethal finish, and doubled the lead with a carbon copy effort early in the second half after being set free by Frank Lampard.

Fernando Torres, starting ahead of Didier Drogba, looked lively and almost opened his Chelsea account but was denied by keeper Johan Wiland after a neat turn and shot inside the area.

Reallooked on course to end a run of three successive defeats in France when Benzema scored with almost his first touch against his former club midway through the second half.

Lyon seized the early initiative with the lively Michel Bastos shooting over and Real rarely threatened until Cristiano Ronaldo's long-range free kick was pushed away by the diving Huge Lloris.

After the break, Ronaldo hit the post with a free kick before Benzema, replacing Emmanuel Adebayor, avoided several challenges in the box and calmly slotted the ball into the net on 65 minutes.

Lyon, however, equalised seven minutes from time when the ball looped off a defender from a free kick straight to the unmarked Gomis who scored from close range.

The second leg takes place at the Bernabeu on March 16th.
