FAI CUP: SLIGO ROVERS - 2 LIMERICK CITY - 1:Sligo Rovers advanced to the quarter-finals with a hard-earned victory over 10-man Limerick at the Showgrounds on Saturday night.

Mark Hutchison marked his return to action after a five-week lay-off with the opening goal for Sligo in the eighth minute. He reacted sharply in a crowded goalmouth to head home from Jason Moran's inswinging corner kick.

Limerick looked to be in even deeper trouble when midfielder Oran Weldrick was sent off following a rash challenge on Raffaele Cretaro in the 27th minute; but they showed great character in fighting back to get on level terms before the interval.

The equaliser was set up by Brian Donnellan and finished from close range by Ciaran Foley in the 39th minute.
