Sligo Rovers 5 Glentoran 0:Sligo Rovers put this Setanta Sports Cup quarter-final out of Glentoran's reach with a convincing win at the Showgrounds last night.

Sligo were four goals ahead at half-time and Evan McMillan’s fifth three minutes into the second half ended a dream night for the league champions.

Colin Nixon had a couple of chances for Glentoran late in the game but the Sligo goal remained intact.

Rovers hit the front after just two minutes when Lee Lynch rifled the ball to the Glentoran net.

Glentoran fell further behind in the 20th minute when former Grimsby town striker Anthony Elding headed to the net on his debut.

The game was put out of Glentoran’s reach in the 20th minute when Ryan Connolly rattled the net from a David Cawley cross for the third goal.

Lynch scored his second and Sligo’s fourth two minutes later to leave the Northerners with a mountain to climb in the second leg.

Carl McComb forced Rovers goalkeeper Gary Rogers into a smart save a minute before half-time in the visitors first real chance of the half.
