Sligo ... 0-14 Derry ... 1-10: Derry's seeming indifference to the league continues and Sligo took advantage to win at Celtic Park yesterday. The defeat - Derry's fourth on the trot - leaves them pointless at the bottom of the table.
Despite the reverse, manager Eamonn Coleman remained upbeat. "The lads gave a tremendous performance today and when one considers how many first-choice players we were missing, it was a good display."
Coleman dismissed claims that Derry were not treating the league seriously. "Anyone who suggests that simply doesn't know the game. We've been trying our best to win all our games, but with so many players out, we simply haven't got the strength and depth."
Sligo led by a point at half-time but Derry opened the second half well and went in front when Geoffrey McGonigle rose above Neil Carew to fist the ball to the net.
But Sligo dominated the closing minutes and Gerry McGowan was their match-winner with three points, two from frees and one from a 45 two minutes into injury-time.
