Enjoying more possession than their opponents, Skerries Community College were boosted by tries at the end of each half at Navan yesterday.

Although camped in their opponents' half while wind assisted in the first period, the Dublin side did not go ahead until the 30th minute when hooker Stephen Burton powered over for a try. Conal Keane added a drop goal to make it 8-0 at half-time.

John Lynch kicked two penalties for St Mel's in the second half, but the Longford side had little to offer in an unexciting encounter. In the last seconds of action Skerries number eight Paul Sherlock put the icing on the cake for the winners with the second try.
