Sexton penalty edges Leinster through

Leinster... 3 Ulster..

Leinster ... 3 Ulster ... 0 Ulster Schools wasted their best opportunity since their last win over Leinster Schools back in 1989 to trump the reigning interprovincial champions at Donnybrook yesterday.

An early penalty from out-half Jonathan Sexton gave Leinster the lead and it began to look like a real obstacle for Ulster, with their centre Mark Scott off target from a penalty and outhalf Andrew Harper's drop goal attempt drifting wide.

Ulster ruled the scrum and lineout. Their power and athleticism up front prevented Leinster from providing a worthwhile service to a clearly superior back division.

There was little to enthuse about after the break until Ulster left wing Jamie McGrugan burst deep into the 22. Leinster's Vincent Gough got back to drag him to the ground and referee John Sheehan blew for a knock-on as right wing Rory Drysdale spun away from the cover and over the line.
