The Premier League voted to offer Richard Scudamore the vacant post of chief executive as the controversy which led to their former supremo's downfall almost five months ago continued to rumble on.

Scudamore, who has impressed in his role as the chief executive of the Football League after joining from a business background, will now be formally offered the new post.

He will then have to decide whether to stay in his current job, agree terms with the Premier League or keep his options open.
