COLIN MONTGOMERlE has withdrawn from this week's Tournament Players' Championship in Hamburg starting tomorrow "for personal reasons".
The Scot's surprise withdrawal came less than 24 hours after he shot the best round of the week in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth - an eight-under-par 64 - to take fifth place in the event.
His management company, International Management Group, said they "could add nothing further" to Montgomerie's short explanation.
Following his 64 - a day after he soared to a 76 - Montgomerie had been looking forward to the Hamburg tournament as part of his build-up for next month's US Open.
His withdrawal also costs him a good chance of improving his position in his bid for a fifth successful European Order of Merit title.
He is currently 17th in the table now led by PGA champion Ian Woosnam, who is not playing in Hamburg.
