The almost total dominance of St Michael's at Templeville Road yesterday yielded a 15-5 victory over Presentation Bray to earn a Leinster Schools' Junior Cup semi-final berth, writes Ian O'Riordan.
Stephen McGrath missed an early penalty for St Michael's but then made up for it on the 22-minute mark by barging his way under the posts to claim the opening try. He also converted.
Number eight David Carroll led the persistent charging of the forwards, and even if they had the advantage of the wind, their control of possession was absolute. They maintained the superior creativity throughout the second half and a superb run by Jamie Buckley-Barnes 10 minutes after the restart led to a second try.
Carroll carried on the move and the ball passed through outhalf George Byron and centre Stephen Mitton before full back Brian Rainey scurried into the corner for the touchdown.
A double subsitution briefly inspired Presentation and left wing Stephen King completed one of their better periods with a try in the corner six minutes from time. That was all that St Michael's would allow, however, and instead they had the last word from McGrath with a penalty in the final minute.
