WORLD tennis number one Pete Sampras last night dramatically pulled out of the Olympic Games due to injury.

The world's top ranked player, who failed in his bid to successfully defend his Wimbledon crown earlier this month, has an Achilles tendon problem.

His withdrawal came hours after the women's number one, Steffi Graf of Germany, also pulled out of the Games because of a knee injury.
