Gordon Elliot brought the former crock Silver Birch back from obscurity to win a memorable Grand National last month and the young trainer's followers will be hoping he can work the oracle with Salford City as well at Limerick today.

The ex-David Elsworth-trained horse was one of the leading three-year-olds of 2004 when there was real disappointment at how he could manage "only" sixth in the Derby and fifth in the 2,000 Guineas.

Salford City was subsequently sent to race in the US where the change of scenery failed to reignite his top form and last year he pitched up in Noel Meade's yard for a run at Galway which didn't yield much behind Elusive Dream.

Now the six-year-old is being tried at the jumping game and while the problems that have blighted his career in the last few years make Salford City one to watch rather than bet heavily on, he remains an intriguing runner in the Limerick opener.
