Mount Sion ... 2-13 Adare ... 1-13 Mount Sion, fielding six of Waterford's provincial championship winning team, proved too good for Adare of Limerick in the Munster club hurling first-round match at Walsh Park yesterday.
Mount Sion led by 0-4 to 0-3 after 10 minutes at which stage their young goalkeeper Ian O'Regan conceded a needless penalty, tripping Brian Sexton as he bore down on goal.
Adare centre back Mark Foley took full advantage by blasting to the net to put the Limerick men ahead.
The home side recovered well and full forward Sean Ryan restored their lead with a fine goal on 16 minutes to help them to a 1-8 to 1-7 lead at the break.
And when early second-half points by Eoin Kelly and Michael White were followed by a second Ryan goal, the winners were in command although Adare fought back to narrow the gap to two points.
However, Ryan's goals were vital for Mount Sion as they eased their way into the next round.
