Six Nations:England captain Mike Tindall suffered a ligament strain to his left ankle in last Sunday's Six Nations victory over Scotland and is set to miss their final game against Ireland on Saturday.

Tindall, who was replaced at half-time in England's 22-16 victory, had the results of an MRI scan assessed by an ankle specialist last night.

The Gloucester centre will continue to receive treatment from England medics team ahead of tomorrow's team announcement for the Grand Slam decider at the Aviva Stadium.

If Tindall is ruled out of the trip to Dublin, Bath's Matt Banahan is the leading candidate to start at outside centre. The captaincy would probably pass to Nick Easter, the Harlequins number eight.
